Jiangzhou has an indigenous folk culture and Jiangzhou people have the custom of temple fair. Temple fair has a long history. It is a featured festival of cultural entertainment as well as economic trade. In the aim of promoting folk culture and developing local economy, the government has organized City God Temple Fair annually since 2012, falling between October 4-6, when the Mid-Autumn festival and National Day occur. There are three features of the temple fair: Firstly, a large number of visitors. During the fair, the number of daily visitors reached 50,000, and the number of total visitors during the two festivals accounted to over 300,000. Secondly, diversity in cultural activities. During the fair, consecutive stage shows are provided each day by Xinjiang Pu Opera Theater, Jiangzhou Drum Band and Jiangzhou Shadow Play Group. Moreover, religious ceremonies attract visitors, including temple worship, opening ceremony, ashram and so on. Besides, cultural handicrafts and local snacks are appealing, such as Jiangzhou wood painting, brush pen, and Chengni inkstone. At night, the landscape presents a colorful and dazzling picture, for which the visitors stay longer to appreciate the temple culture. Thirdly, remarkable accomplishments have been achieved. The first temple fair was considered a great success in terms of advocating traditional folk culture, eliciting enthusiastic response from the visitors and building a favorable reputation in south Shanxi. It is the outcome of the "Double Ten Project" organized by the government, benefiting the county with unprecedentedly high tourism revenue.
