Yaotai Mountain, also known as Wuxian Mountain, is located along the Baisha River which is 2 kilometers away from the east of the county and also the first of the eight ancient scenes in Xiaxian County. Yaotai means Qionggong Yaotai, and the ancients believed that fine wishes could reach heaven from this. Yaotai is also known as "Wuxian Mountain", which is named after the burial of Shang Minister Wu Xian and his son at the foot of the mountain.
During the Ming and Qing dynasties, temples stood in great numbers here, which was the best place for visitors to visit, especially in the Mid-Autumn. The pagoda was built on the top of the mountain in the Ming Dynasty, and the literati and writers often extolled here. Yang Shouxian, a wise scholar of the Qing Dynasty, once wrote, “Every month the moon is very bright, but the moon in August is especially bright, every mountain is very beautiful, but Wu Mountain is particularly beautiful.” "Yaotai Moonlight Night" even more makes this mountain famous all over the world. Geologically speaking, Yaotai Mountain is an extinct volcano, which forms the hot spring of "the first medicine soup in China". During the Anti-Japanese War, all the ancient buildings around Yaotai Mountain were demolished and the trees on the slope were burned down. In 1954 Xiaxian County party committee and county government launched the public to green Yao Tai, so that the front slope can be covered with bluish green cypress.
In 2004, the Taixu Temple was refurbished on the top of the mountain. God Thor’s Hole was rebuilt on the mountainside, and a super long mountain slide with a length of 500 meters and a drop of 200 meters was built with safe and reliable equipment and fancy entertainment. In 2013, the extreme terror recreation city in Yaotai Mountain was officially opened to tourists, and plus, there's a real person CS club.
In the Taixu Temple at the top of the mountain, there is a nine-story pagoda with a height of 43.69 meters. Inside the pagoda, three Buddhas and five Bodhisattvas including Guanyin, Manjusri, Puxian, Dizang and Maitreya are enshrined. Taoist buildings in the temple are: temples and pavilions of Sanqing, Sanguan, Wenchang, Medicine King and Thunder god .
The integration of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism in Yaotai Mountain can be called the holy land of ancient and modern religions and has become an important symbol of the ancient capital Xiaxian County.
